Literature

Students will be able to understand the expressed meaning in literature representative of various societies, eras and ideas.

Objectives

  • Distinguish among the types of literature.
  • Understand selected literary works from various historical periods.
  • Understand selected literary works that manifest different value systems and philosophies.
  • Understand the literary elements and techniques used to convey meaning.
  • Recognize literary themes and their implications.

     Literature at the Primary Grades focuses on common tales, such as "The Hare and the Tortoise," "The Mouse and the Lion," and "The Country Mouse and the Town Mouse." At the Intermediate Grades, lesson modules focus on legends and fairy tales. At the Middle/Junior High Grades, the curriculum focuses on mythology and at the High School level, lesson modules cover American and English literature.

     Students are given links and required to read assigned texts that are referenced in the various lesson modules.
