Reading
Students will be able to read, comprehend, interpret, evaluate, and use written material.
Objectives
- Recognize, recall, and summarize information from material read.
- Understand the various purposes for reading and identify text to accomplish each purpose.
- Apply word analysis and vocabulary skills to comprehend text.
- Apply reading strategies to improve fluency and understanding.
- Comprehend a broad range of reading material.
Reading includes letter sounds (phonics) at the Primary Grades, comprehension at the Intermediate and Middle/Junior High, and the use of language in the High School Grades. Reading excerpts are rich and varied and include topics from Tugboats to the Ancient Mariner.
